Holy Face of Jesus from Manoppello, Italy enthroned in SagradaFamilia Parish
TAGUIG CITY – The Holy Face of Manoppello arrived at SagradaFamilia Parish in Barangay Bagumbayan, September 14, Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.
The sacred veil is a gift from Rev. Fr. Carmine Cucinelli, rector of the Basilica of the Holy Face of Manoppello, Italy and Daisy Nieves, a Filipina devotee of the said relic to the Bagumbayan Community and Diocese of Pasig. This relic is a sudarium, a veil or handkerchief customarily used
by Jews to cover the face of the dead in their burial. It measures 7 by 10 inches with an imprint of Christ’s face with opened eyes and closed wounds.
The Holy Face of Manoppello was officially shown to the public through a motorcade around the City of Taguig, with Rev. Fr. Bonifacio Lopez, translator of Fr. Cucinelli; Rev. Fr. Daniel Estacio, Vicar Forane of Vicariate of Sto. Nino and Rev. Fr. Danilo Flores, Parish Priest of SagradaFamilia Parish.
After the motorcade, a Eucharistic Celebration was officiated by Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara.
In his homily, Bishop Vergara said that the veil reminded us not just of the suffering of Christ but His mercy and compassion to His people and encouraged the people to have a devotion in the Holy Face of Jesus.
Fr. Cucinelli who gave his message in Italian and translated by Fr. Lopez in Filipino, said that he was overwhelmed by the number of people who attended the celebration and will pray that the devotion of the Holy Face will spread throughout the country.
Before the mass ended, Bishop Vergara and Fr. Cucinelli crowned the Holy Face of Manoppello and enthroned it to the newly constructed retablo at the second floor of the Parish.
On September 15, Tuesday, 3:00 p.m., the Holy Face of Jesus will be brought to the University of Sto. Tomas in Espana, Manila, where a special mass will be held at 5:00 p.m. to be presided by Rev. Fr. Roy Rodriguez, OP.
