(to be prayed after the Post Communion Prayer starting anticipated 3rd Sunday of Advent Mass, all Masses on Sunday (Dec. 11) until the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe)

San Lorenzo Ruiz, ipanalangin mo kami.

San Pedro Calungsod, ipanalangin mo kami.

THE HOLY HOUR OF MERCY
for the Diocese of Pasig (Dec. 12, 2016)
(invoking God’s Divine Protection for Life against Death Penalty)

HOLY HOUR OF MERCY (after the Mass)
“A sign of hope is the increasing recognition that the dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil. Modern society has the means of protecting itself, without definitively denying criminals the chance to reform…end the death penalty, which is both cruel and unnecessary.”

– Pope John Paul II, January 27, 1999

READING

Deuteronomy 30:15-20

A Reading from the book of Deuteronomy

See, I have today set before you life and death ,good and evil. If you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I am giving you today, loving the LORD, your God, and walking in his ways, and keeping his commandments, statutes and ordinances, you will live and grow numerous, and the LORD, your  God, will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. If, however, your heart turns away and you do not obey, but are led astray and bow down to other gods and serve them, I tell you today that you will certainly perish; you will not have a long life on the land which you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

I call heaven and earth today to witness against you:

I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice, and holding fast to him.

The word of the Lord

(short period of silence)

Song…..

DIYOS AY PAG-IBIG

Pag-ibig ang siyang pumukaw
Sa ating puso at kaluluwa
Ang siyang nagdulot sa ating buhay
Ng gintong aral at pag-asa

Pag-ibig ang siyang buklod natin
Di mapapawi kailan pa man
Sa puso’t diwa tayo’y isa lamang
Kahit na tayo’y magkawalay

Koro:

(brief period of silence)

PSALM

Psalm 23:1-6

Response:

Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

In verdant pastures

he gives me repose;

Beside restful waters he leads me;

he refreshes my soul.

Even though I walk in the dark valley

I fear no evil; for you are at my side.

He guides me in right paths

for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk in the dark valley

I fear no evil; for you are at my side

With your rod and your staff

that give me courage.

Even though I walk in the dark valley

I fear no evil; for you are at my side.

You spread the table before me

in the sight of my foes;

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

Even though I walk in the dark valley

I fear no evil; for you are at my side.

Only goodness and kindness follow me

all the days of my life;

And I shall dwell in the

house of the LORD

for years to come.

Even though I walk in the dark valley

I fear no evil; for you are at my side.

ALLELUIA

GOSPEL

John 8:3-11

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John

The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle. They said to him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he bent down and wrote on the ground.

And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him. Then Jesus straightened up

and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She replied, “No one, sir.” Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, from now on do not sin any more.”

OUR FATHER….. (to be sung)

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Father of compassion,
You let your rain fall on the just and the unjust.
Give us a heart like yours
so that we may love as You love,
even those who have caused us pain.
There is in our land a cry for vengeance and
a move to fill up death rows and kill offenders
but disguised as a call for justice.
Let true and lasting justice spring forth.

Jesus, our brother,
you suffered execution in the hands of the powerful
but you did not let hatred overcome you.
Help us to reach out to victims of violence
so that our enduring love may help heal their wounds.

Holy Spirit, Lord and Giver of Life
You strengthen us in the struggle for justice.
Help us to work tirelessly against state-sanctioned death
and to renew society in truth, justice, love and respect
so that violence will cease and peace may prevail.
Amen.
