Some 175 lectors and commentators from the different parishes within the Vicariate participated in the assembly, namely: Maria, Reyna ng mgaApostoles, Our Lady of the Poor, St. Vincent Ferrer, St. Joseph, SagradaFamilia, St. Michael Chaplaincy, San Pedro Calungsod, Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary and Sto. Nino De Taguig.
The assembly with the theme: “That We May Be One,” is aimed at establishing camaraderie and bonding amonglectors and commentators in the Vicariate as well asexpanding their network with the other ministers of the Word.
Bro. George Michael Tuyay, one of the lectors in the host parish who initiated the assembly, said that theoriginal plan wasto conduct the activity at the Sto. Nino De Taguig Parish churchbut the venue was no longer available for the scheduled date (June 13) when they made an inquiry.
“The Sto. Nino de Taguig parish church was already booked when we inquired. So we opted for the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish church. Afterall, we are also promoting the50th anniversary of our parish this coming October,” Tuyaysaid.
The highlight of the assembly was the inspirational talk of Fr. Daniel Estacio, the Sto. Nino Vicar Forane and the parish priest of the Sto. Nino de Taguig, which focused on the ministry of lectors and commentators and connected it to the life story of St. Anthony de Padua, whose feast is celebrated on June 13.
“As lectors, what lesson can we learn from the life of St. Anthony De Padua? First – his holiness. Not only the physical or external holiness but the holiness from within. Second – his preaching. As a lector we must give value in bringing good news and inspirations that willbring meaning to the life of others. And Third – his intimate relationship with God. Looking at the statue of St. Anthony, he is carrying Jesuswhich showed hisintimate relationship with God,” he explained.
